From the counselors desk
Recovery is more than just stopping the use of alcohol or the substance.
It is essential that it be a whole hearted life style change.
To maintain recovery we must always remember that it is impossible to change
behaviors and choices that we continue to tolerate. Any choice or
behavior we make that contributes to the deterioration of a healthy recovery
life style will eventually destroy the quality of recovery one has attained.
It really is impossible to consistently live a life inconsistent with one's
character. Living a lifestyle of the character it takes to maintain
long term stable remission of the disease of addiction requires we not
tolerate those characteristics or shortcomings that compromise our recovery.
It is not necessary to be a character to have the character needed to stay
clean and sober.
Ask yourself, take an honest inventory to see if the way you live your
life daily demonstrates the character of a whole hearted life style
committed to your recovery. If you can honestly say yes, great.
Safe guard it and it will protect you from the disease. Neglecting it
will invite the disease. If it is not a whole hearted recovery life
style fix it, before it fixes you.
You are the architect and quality assurance crew. The (recovery) life
you build is the life you will get; and in the end the (recovery) life you
get is the one you build.
Come on, step on up and let's get'er done
